SALESIAN STUDENTS FROM CALAMA AT THE EXPONOR

8 de junio de 2024

A group of 70 high school students from Don Bosco Calama School, accompanied by eight of their teachers, actively participated in Exponor 2024, one of the most important industrial events in the country. This event, held in Antofagasta, is an important platform for the mining industry and its suppliers, providing attendees with the opportunity to learn about the latest technological innovations and trends in the sector.

3:00 I think that what we did today was a very nice activity for the businessmen who supported us, like Novamine, and for the students who visited us from Calama. We had a nice meeting with the Minister of Mining, with the SEREMI of Mining and with some of the principals who also supported us and were part of this visit. I think that they will also have a nice memory of the activity, that is why I am convinced that the early involvement of the company with the students will be a good relationship that will bear good fruit and thus they will be able to quickly enter the industry and that benefits both the supplier companies and the ecosystem as a whole.

3:49 Well, I think that the students were able to see new things, new technologies, even the robotics that NASA uses, and I think that the students who are about to graduate will be able to think about the message and challenge of being able to choose which area they want to specialize in, that they begin to analyze where they want to begin their career path and thus the companies that support this initiative can be an alternative for them because today the region and the industry need a lot of human capital, of which we know that Don Bosco School is a great promoter of excellent human capital.

4:32 I thought their visit was super good, we were able to tour a large part of the fair and exhibit, we were able to visit different companies and local suppliers who supported the organization of the visit and we also participated in a talk by BHP and visited the stands of the different mining companies, we were able to visit the Pro Chile stand and the feedback from the students was very good, they were very happy with the impressions they took away from here, from exhibiting

5:15 Hello! We are " with you Don Bosco" and we met with...

5: 19 Paulina Sepúlveda, representative of Novamine Chile

5:20 Well, tell us what you thought of the visit of the Don Bosco Calama school here to Exponor

5:27 Well, I think it's great since we are constantly seeing a flow of students here, not only from the Don Bosco school in Calama. I understand that Don Bosco Antofagasta also has a stand here, behind us, and I think it's super interesting that they can collaborate with us, that they can learn about the industry and get involved in everything that's being done here since several things are being done. I think it's good for you, good for us, it's growth for everyone, and it's great that you can be here.

5:55 And do you have anything to say about the alliance that our Don Bosco school has with you??

6:01 Yes, of course, I understand the following. Alejandra Giménez, the general manager of Novamine Chile is the director of the AIA, so the AIA has an alliance with you, the Don Bosco school, which finally allowed us as Novamine to join you with an agreement, and for you to come here to Exponor, to visit us, to see in general what we do and I understand that you will have other visits to other pavilions and perhaps on-site, so it seems important to me that you include yourselves as students in this whole process, since Alejandra is always aware of the alliances with schools, with trying to incorporate young entrepreneurs, young people who have new ideas, as you see our design of ideas focuses on innovation so it is always good that you can be included and Alejandra has always tried to integrate students in everything she is producing, so it is super good.

7:02 Well, thank you very much for the interview and this is the end of the report.

During their visit, the students visited the stands of leading companies in the mining and technology industry. This year, the experience was even more significant thanks to the interaction with the Minister of Mining, Aurora Williams, who shared her knowledge and visions about the future of the mining sector in Chile.

Alejandra Giménez, General Manager of Novamine, highlighted the importance of this activity: "What we did today was a very nice activity for the businessmen who supported us and for the students who visited us from Calama. We had a nice meeting with the Minister of Mining, Aurora Williams, together with the regional minister of Mining and some of the clients who supported us. I am convinced that the early involvement of the company with the students will be a relationship that will be successful because they will be able to enter the industry early, which benefits the supplier companies and the ecosystem as a whole."

Giménez added: "The students were able to see new technologies, including robotics that NASA is using. I think that students who are about to graduate from high school will be able to think and take away a message and the challenge of being able to see what area they want to specialize in. I hope that the companies that support this initiative can be an alternative for them because today the region and the industry need a lot of human capital, of which we know that Colegio Don Bosco Calama is a great promoter of excellent human capital." Colegio Don Bosco Calama is proud to encourage the participation of its students in highly relevant events, such as Exponor, which significantly contribute to the development of key skills and the strengthening of their professional profile. The participation of students in this event represents an invaluable opportunity for their academic and professional training. We would like to thank all the teachers who accompanied our students on this enriching experience, such as Raúl Ramírez, Guillermo Araya, Milenka Araya, Romina Varas, Doris Quiroga, Maribel Rodríguez, Roberto Borda and Eliana Ruiz, who ensured their well-being and facilitated meaningful learning outside the classroom. We extend our gratitude to the entrepreneurs who supported us on each trip, such as Alejandra Giménez and Manuel Schmitt from Novamine, Javier Valenzuela from Guiñez and Ingeniería, Pamela Garrido from Emeser and Carmen Gómez from Radiadores Gómez.
